Abstract
This study, entitled "The Impact of Social Media Misinformation on Political Skepticism among University Youth in the Kurdistan Region," seeks to achieve a more profound understanding of the phenomenon of misinformation on social media platforms and to analyze the psychological effects it produces on university students. The significance of this research derives from the contemporary relevance of the topic and the paucity of Kurdish academic sources that have scientifically investigated this domain. The research is descriptive in nature and relies upon a quantitative methodology, wherein a survey questionnaire instrument was employed for data collection. Consequently, the researcher selected the research population from students of public universities in the Kurdistan Region and worked with a purposive random sample of 450 students from the Universities of Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, Duhok, and Halabja, while accounting for variations in gender and academic specializations. Ultimately, the research arrived at the conclusion that the phenomenon of misinformation exerts a direct and substantial impact on the is disseminated with the intent of distortion and deception, particularly in the sphere of. Finally, the research presented a number of recommendations and proposals, the most significant of which is the emphasis on the necessity of developing media literacy within the education system and higher education. Moreover, the formulation of an appropriate legal framework for confronting the dissemination of false information and the encouragement of media institutions to strengthen their gatekeeping role are considered suitable fundamental measures for reducing this phenomenon.
