Main Article Content
Abstract
This research, titled "The Role of the Producer in the Production of News Bulletins in Kurdish Satellite Channels," aims to highlight the status and significance of the producer's role as the primary engine of the newsroom. It also seeks to identify the criteria relied upon in structuring the rundown and prioritizing news stories.
The study falls within the framework of descriptive research and employs the survey method. To collect data, a questionnaire was distributed to a field sample consisting of 76 producers across 10 different satellite channels (Kurdistan TV, Kurdsat News, NRT, Rudaw, Kurdistan24, Channel 8, Ava Media, Zoom News, Payam, and Speda), representing diverse orientations within Kurdish media. Additionally, to enrich the theoretical aspect, direct interviews were conducted with a number of producers from these channels.
The most significant findings reveal that Kurdish channels, akin to global media, place great emphasis on the work of producers, treating it as a modern operational model. The producer plays a central and decisive role in the bulletin production process. Furthermore, "institutional policy" and "audience preference" were identified as the two fundamental factors producers rely upon when prioritizing news stories. As a scientific endeavor, this study can serve as a resource for understanding transformations within Kurdish newsrooms and developing the capabilities of decision-making personnel in visual media.
