Abstract

Abstract:

After the occupation of Baghdad in 1917, the British began planning to reach South Kurdistan. They intended to achieve their goal with minimal loss of life, so they had to prepare for this military operation by launching a political propaganda campaign, programmed with all available techniques.

Thus, the decision to issue a Kurdish language newspaper under the name of (Tegaishtny Rasty - Understanding the Truth) has become very necessary. The newspaper ran an intense political propaganda campaign and became the media platform of the British military command during World War 1st.

The main purpose of the newspaper was to convince the Kurdish people and their tribal leaders that the British had won the war and that the Turks had been defeated. The second aim was to tell the Kurdish people that everyone who joined the ranks of the winner had received all the good and the happiness, and whoever opposed the British and supported the Turks, would lose.

The newspaper ran its political campaign for a full year using a combination of propaganda techniques and all skills used by some of the Kurdish writers who lived in Baghdad at that time, addressing the mentality and emotions of ordinary, educated, tribal and Kurdish people living in big cities.

This study is a scientific attempt to uncover the techniques practiced by (Tegaishtny Rasty - Understanding the Truth) in political propaganda campaigns for the benefit of the British and against the Turks.
