Components of food Industry and their geographical distributions in Erbil governorate


Food industry is one of the most significant activities of economic development, providing an increase in an individual’s income, creating job opportunities, and mitigating unemployment. In addition to being one of the important and valuable needs, Food industry and its proper distribution are considered as the cause of economic, political, social, and cultural progression and the backbone for the development of provinces and regions in the country, filling out the needs of population as well as being the link between sectors and source of operating natural and human-made incomes. The main aim of the research is to study the geographical distribution of food industry branches and revealing the differences existing among the districts. On the other hand, the research evaluates and explains the components of food industry.


The problem of the research lies in the imbalance of the geographical distribution of food industry branches and types among the administrative units selected in the research. Components of food industry and their geographical distributions in Erbil governorate are divided into three themes: The concept of food industry and its significance, the second theme is the analysis of food industry structure in Erbil governorate, and the final theme is the geographical distribution of food industry in Erbil governorate.


To accomplish the goals of the research, a general scientific methodology has been adopted, comprised of (division, analysis, composition), displaying data and information in terms of graphs, using programs and new analytical tools such as (Excel 2016, Arc GIS 10.8)


In conclusion, the research yielded that food industry in the selected area of the research has its special significance for being considered an essential element of national security, a main branch of national economy, a direct contributor in increasing national domestic product, linking chain between agricultural and industrial sectors, a key principle and basis of commercial sector in the country as well as being an indicator of welfare of citizens.
