Abstract

After the change of the political system in Iraq in 2003, the Iraqi arena witnessed complex transformations and changes that grew and accelerated in the post-US occupation in 2003 and the accompanying complications and transformations in the political, social and economic structures that resulted in multiple and complex crises with repercussions that were largely reflected on the nature and unity of society In Iraq, the most prominent of these crises is sectarianism, so the question remains, what is sectarianism?

   Sectarianism is simply a phenomenon that is affected by political conditions with the concept of self-consideration in favoring the members of the same sect or the same religion over others belonging to other sects, and the tendency to ostracism and isolation from others, that is, it is the product of the interaction of political and religious reasons as well as economic and social reasons that directly affect the life of the individual So sectarianism is the outcome of a reality resulting from several factors that go back to deep roots in a societal structure that rebounds on itself during crises in order to play a role accepted by members of the sect in society. If we look at the Iraqi case, we find that Sectarianism is not a fabricated or new phenomenon, but rather an old phenomenon with its historical roots. It lies in the generating effect of conflicts through their politicization and distortion of the modern frameworks of political life in Iraq after 2003. After it was marginal before the change, it soon became the center of the pole and this transformation spread in the body of Iraqi society in a way that put the unity of society and the state in dire consequences.
